The students discovered congruence in triangles by participating in a fun activity where they worked in pairs to create triangles according to specific angle or side measures. Then they placed their newly created triangles in categories. As a class they reflected on the different categories in order to discover difference congruence relationships between triangle parts to determine if in fact the triangles were congruent. Tomorrow the postulates and theorems that go with congruent triangles will be introduced. After completing this activity, learning the new postulates and theorems should be a breeze!

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year.

Curriculum areas we will focus on this year include an opportunity for students to develop reasoning and problem solving skills. Topics such as congruence and similarity of lines, triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles will be studied as well as use of length, perimeter, area, circumference, surface area, and volume to solve real-world problems.

Students are asked to bring the following supplies to school before Monday, August 31:
Pencils/NO PENS
Notebook paper
1” three ring Binder
Computer/Charger
Calculator

My homework policy is homework is due at the beginning of each class period and late work will not be accepted. One quiz grade and one daily work grade will be dropped each six weeks. Students are responsible for picking up their make-up work. Students have one day to complete make-up work for each day missed.

My grading policy is:
10% - Daily Work
(homework, class participation, etc…)
25% - Quizzes
(individual & group quizzes, pop quizzes, and quizzes over homework)
65% - Exams
(chapter tests, mid-chapter tests, & six week tests)

Studies show that parental involvement in a child’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement. We hope you will make it a priority this year to attend as many school-sponsored events as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns or if you would like to visit our classroom, schedule a conference, or volunteer to help out, you can contact me at (work) 937-6131, (home) 937-3353, or email me at psteed@childressisd.net. The best times to reach me are before or after school or during my conference from 10:00-10:40 each day.

Once again, welcome to geometry. Let’s work together to make this the best year ever!

Sincerely,
Paige Steed
